Canberra CIT Fashion students: Designing for Sports/Streetswear

Canberra City, a created place to house the mechanical drones that run our country. These drone travel from one place to another like a harmonic routine, constantly conditioned to never look beyond what they see.

One day a girl wakes from this coma with a mission set clearly in her mind..."there has to be more?” She searches Canberra like a creative nomad with the hope to find its hidden excitement and secrets.

Innitial individual concept - Missy

Street wear garments that challenge the effectiveness of traditional seam line placements to create new seam lines that are placed to achieve better movement and comfort. It is inspired by the research into new track cycling suits designed for better aerodynamics and air flow around the body by changing the placement of seams. The sportswear technology that would be used is the body scanning technology that maps movements as well as body shape to create pattern pieces specific to that movement. The design strategy used could be longevity using good quality sports fabrics and tougher seam constructions like flat seams.

Message: By using new seam placements designed for a specific purpose you can create clothing that provides better comfort and movement for that purpose.

Intent: to create clothes that provides better comfort and movement to the wearer.

Audience: 19 – 24 female
The specific movements that the seam lines would be based off would come from what the consumers are doing, whether it’s a sport or while they are out partying or whatever.
